Barcodes
We are fully equipped to apply a barcode to your plastic cards. QR and Aztec codes can also be added.

Embossing
Raised letters and/or numbers and tipped in a range of metallic foils and colours to give your cards the traditional bank card look.

Handy hints and tips for designing an effective leaflet

Some handy hints and tips for designing a leaflet, that will hopefully help your business to stand out:

1.    Headline - make it attention grabbing, to keep the customer interested
2.    Easy to read font
3.    Include images - pictures can say more than words especially when you are trying to sell a product or service
4.    Bullet points rather than long sentences - if you tell the customer too much they will lose interest.
5.    Include ‘Power’ words - free, bargain, bonus, save, special, offer. Try and incorporate these words into the text naturally
6.    Use blank space - makes it easier to read - less is more
7.    Choose the right material and weight of paper

What you need to know - Legal requirements for your printed stationery

There are a number of legal requirements which you must follow when designing your business stationery. These requirements vary depending on the type of business you run.

Limited Company
If your company is trading as a limited company, you must include the following on your stationery:
  • The full registered name
  • The registration number and place of registration
  • The registered address and the address of its place of business if these differ

NB: There is no requirement to include the directors’ names on stationery if you are a limited company, however if you do choose to include this then all directors names must be included.

Sole Trader
If you are a sole trader you can trade under your own name or you can choose a different business name. If you choose something other than your own name for the business, you will have to include your own name and the business address on all business letters, orders and receipts.

Partnership
If you are a partnership, you must state the names of all partners and the address of the principal office on letters, orders, invoices and receipts. Alternatively, you can indicate where a list of partners may be inspected.

Charities - If the name excludes the words ‘charity’ or ‘charitable’ then you must state the fact that it is a charity on the stationery.

If your company is VAT registered, your invoices must state your VAT registration number. Include your bank details on invoices to aid quicker payment by BACS (bank transfer). Include the account name, number and sort code.

  • Company Name - This is usually the most prominent element on the card.
  • Your Name - This may not be the case if you are designing a generic card for the whole office, but this will give the business cards a more personal feel.
  • Key contact information – Include you name, contact numbers (office number, mobile number) and email address this way people can easily get in touch with you if needed.
  • Website address - This will direct people to your business website which makes it easier to find out what you do as a company and what you can supply them with. Essential for web based businesses.
  • Physical address - This is not always necessary especially if you are an online business
  • Description or list of services - A small bullet list of what you do is a good idea if the company name doesn't give away what the business does.
  • Social Media - Invite people to connect with you on your Facebook Page, Twitter or Linkedin.

What is the difference between CMYK, PMS and RGB

CMYK - CMYK or four colour process is created using the primary colours of pigment: Cyan (blue), Magenta (red), Yellow and Black. Black is designated the letter K to avoid confusion with B for blue. Because the inks used are translucent they can be overprinted and combined in a variety of different proportions to produce a wide range of colours.

PMS - Spot colours, also known as PMS colours, and officially as Pantone Matching System colours are specific colour formulas that will reproduce accurately in print. Instead of simulating colours by combining primary colours (CMYK), spot (PMS) colours are pre-mixed with existing and published colour formulas.

RGB - If you are reading this, you are reading an RGB display via your computer. RGB stands for Red, Green and Blue. These are the three colours that create every other tone of colour that is visible on your screen. Whilst each monitor is capable of displaying a wide range of colours, there are still inconsistencies between computers. This is usually due to the fact that screens are not always accurately calibrated.

Proofing for print checklist

Misprinted work can be costly, so we have put together a short checklist for proofing for print

1. Check the spelling, and then check again. Computerised spell checkers can miss mistakes so double check that all names, spellings and punctuation is correct - get fresh eyes to proof this too.

2. Check contact details. Telephone numbers, websites, emails, names and postal addresses - are these all correct?

3. Always print a proof out. Usually mistakes can be easier to spot on a hardcopy than they can on a screen. It also helps to see something at its ‘real’ size. Royale Graphics can provide you with digitally printed proofs if requested.

4. Check that all pages are included in the proof. Are they in the right order? Also make sure that the page numbers are correct (if applicable)

5. Check that all images or photos are included and in the correct positions.

6. Ensure readability of text.
Is the text easy to read and at the correct font size? Consider whitespace.

……and once you've checked all those, check again!

Olympic ticket printing

A few thoughts on the Olympic ticket contract being awarded to an American company -

At a time when thousands of UK print workers are losing their jobs on an annual basis, the £16m contract for the Olympic tickets printing has been awarded to a company in America by the British Government.
As with many industries, it has been a bad few years for print companies in the UK with quite a few of the larger printers having to close down. Another kick in the teeth for UK workers!
This country is worried about being 'green' and environmental issues, yet they are flying the ticket 4,500 miles. I'm sure with the cost of flying the tickets over, it would have been less expensive to use a printing company in the UK.
This is another great example of how this country does not help local businesses, and we wonder why so many are going into administration.
We should be thinking about boosting our own economy, not the American one.
The government said the Olympics would be good for business, but obviously not UK print companies.

Please feel free to add your own comments, let me know what you think about this decision.
